Flat Hiking at Bear Creek Lake Park

On a 60 degree Friday in January, Carol, Beth and Donna headed to Bear Creek Lake Park for a flat hike. As usual, map-reading perplexed us, but we did discover a promising trail for the next hike. We questioned the judgement of the ice fishermen who were literally on "thin ice"; observed oriole nests; wondered about the unknown occupants of several large nests, and searched for elusive beavers. All in all, a lovely 4.65 mile meandering hike.

Hussies Secrets Revealed!

Because we know there are many Hiking Hussie wannabes out there, we have decided to produce a number of videos to demonstrate what it takes to be a Hiking Hussie.

The scarf is an essential item in every hiker's wardrobe both for warmth and style. The Hiking Hussie, however, takes the scarf to a whole new level. We not only want to be warm, we want that warmth to have a bit of an European flair! Here Carol demonstrates the Hussie scarf.

Often we are approached at the coffee shop after our hikes by wannabes who ask the question: "How do you Hiking Hussies not have hat hair after hiking all day in your Hussie hats?"  Donna shares part in this video about bang fluffing.

Be sure to check here often for more hints from the Hiking Hussies!

Hiking Hussie Hiking Tips

Hiking Hussies began 2011 with a hike up North Table Mountain with lunch at Woodie's Pizza later. We also created this video with tips for hikers with bad knees and a desire to be in a marching band!

We didn't have lunch but enjoyed great snacks!
